Elizabeth Rossi
Post Jr. Vice Commander - Marines
Immediately upon graduating high school in 2000, Elizabeth Rossi enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. She attended basic training at Paris Island South Carolina and combat training at Camp Geiger NC. Liz would go on to Marine Corps Training Center Twenty-nine Palms, Ca for Military Occupational Specialty training. Liz learned to become a Small Computer Specialist earning the (MOS) of 4066. In 2003, at the outbreak of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Liz would be sent to the Middle East, earning her eligibility into the Veterans of Foreign Wars, with the 6th Communications Battalion, Support Company. Her responsibility was to establish and maintain the unit’s two computer networks. After the deployment, Liz continued to drill with the USMCR until the completion of her enlistment. She had risen to the rank of Sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge in 2008.
Liz now holds an Undergraduate degree from Smith College in Northampton, Ma. Where at she was an Ada Comstock Scholar. She then went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Early Education/ Special Education from the College of New Rochelle and became certified to work with student’s birth to grade 2. Liz works with special needs preschool children, to develop their social and academic requirements, in order for them to succeed wish their future education.
Elizabeth Rossi and her dad Danny, a Disabled Marine Corps Veteran, also run a hot dog cart outside of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The cart is dedicated to U.S. Marines who had been killed in action. They are one of New York City’s last independent hot dog venders. Disabled veterans can apply for and receive special permits to operate vending carts. In the past years numerous non-veterans have been getting their hands on these permits, allowing illegal businesses to flourish and causing overcrowding. Liz has been a staunch advocate for veteran’s rights to hold and operate these vending businesses. She has been "Fighting City Hall " for the past couple of years and has been working with numerous city agency’s to ensure that compliance is administered fairly.
These two full time jobs not being enough for this mother of two. Liz is a Life Member of the Yonkers City Post No. 1666 V.F.W. and also the Chapter President for the Women Marines Association, Cpl. Ramona Valdez Chapter NY-6. With that, Liz has been instrumental with Fund Raising events to assist homeless females and to assist with any other female veteran issues. She is an increasable administrator and organizer. In the Yonkers City Post 1666, Liz is the Chair of both the Communications committee and the Bingo Committee Her managerial skills and leadership qualities are apparent with every event that she coordinates and every program that she puts in place. And Nobody Does More For Veterans, or the Community, then Elizabeth Rossi.
