In 1970, Francisco Perez volunteered for the draft to serve with
the US army. He completed Basic Training in Ft. Jackson S.C. He completed two
AIT’s at the Signal Corps School in Ft. Gordon, Ga. Where he qualified as a
Radio Operator and a Teletype Operator. He graduated third in his class of over
300 students as an E4 with a Secret/ Crypto clearance. He received orders to
serve in the Republic of Vietnam with Military Assistance Command, Vietnam from
1971 to 1972, where he first earn his eligibility into the Veterans of Foreign
Wars. He was assigned as crew chief of communications for a detachment of the
525 Military Intelligence Group stationed in Qui Nhon. He and his fellow NCO’s
accompanied the intelligence officers and advisors on various missions and then
transmitted the information to
Headquarters and other M.I. units in the network. These missions usually
entailed working alongside South Vietnamese and occasionally Republic of Korea
and Australian units. During his last month of his tour he passed the E5 Board
and became a Specialist 5th Class. After his tour he was honorably
discharged from the US Army. Frank went to work in the private sector and was
employed by the Federal reserve Bank in NYC as well as Pain Webber Inc. and
Smith Barney , Inc. he was with Smith Barney for over 21 years.
In 1990 Frank enlisted in the Reserve Component of the US
Navy under the OSVET Program as an E3. Through classroom study and
correspondence courses he eventually became a Culinary Specialist 1stClass Petty Officer. During his career he had the opportunity to serve on
various classes of ships and commands throughout the US and the world. He was a
plank owner of the Navy reserve ship USS Bowen, FFT 1079 from Nov. 1991 to
April 1994. CS1 had been mobilized 4 times to Active Duty during his time in
the Reserves. He was mobilized during
Kosovo operations to NSA Sigonella. After the Twin Towers fell he was recalled to
serve at SUBASE, Groton Ct. He stood various watches as part of the Naval
Security Force there. He volunteered for a second tour and served a total of 18
months at the SUBASE. For his third mobilization CS1 Perez volunteered for
Customs Battalion Romeo in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global
War on Terrorism. He served at the Kuwaiti Naval Base and "S”POD and earned "Sailor
of the Deployment” for his company. His fourth and final mobilization CS1 Perez
volunteered to do another Customs Mission in Kuwait in support of OIF. He was
then sent to the Kingdom of Bahrain where he took over for a Senior Chief and
coordinated of the Navy’s first expeditionary dining facility at Sheik Isa
Airbase.

Unit Commendation, Navy "E” Ribbon, Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal,
National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Battle Stars, Kosovo
Campaign Medal, GWOT Expeditionary and Service Medals, Sea Service Deployment
Ribbon, Navy / Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve
Medal, RVN Meritorious Unit Citation 9Gallantry Cross) w/ Palm device, RVN Campain Medal, Navy Rifle
and Pistol Expert Medals along with 3 Flag Letters of Commendation.
Frank retired from the Naval Reserves in 2014. He completed
the NYS EMT Course and went to Work for Empress Ambulance service , Rising to
the rank of Lieutenant. In 2018 Frank joined the Yonkers City Post 1666 V.F.W. He
immediately became highly active in the Post affairs and has been extremely
influential in the Safety Committee. In April 2019 Frank was elected to the Position
of Post Chaplin. He can be found at every
function and event and has been an incredible spiritual advisor to our Post and
Our members.
