Joseph Maydwell

Quartermaster Joseph P Maydwell was born in New York City, N.Y. June 13, 1963. He was raised and attended school in the Bronx, N.Y. In May of 1983 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He attended recruit training in Great Lakes Illinois. Upon completion of boot camp he attended "C” School in Great Lakes Illinois. At the complete of Engineering "C” school he was assigned to the fleet and designated for assignment on the USS Shenandoah AD44. He attended firefighter and damage control training. He also attended Diesel Engine Repair School in little Creek, Virginia.

Quartermaster Maydwell was assigned to San Diego Naval base where he joined the commissioning crew of the USS Shenandoah. While assigned to the USS Shenandoah he completed a maiden voyage from San Diego to his home port of Norfolk, VA. He also completed refresher training in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba qualifying him for the Battle "E”. He was deployed to the Middle East for the war in Syria.

Quartermaster Maydwell was separated from active duty May 1986. He remained in the Navy Reserves for two more years fulfilling his Military contract. He completed his reserved drill at Fort Schuler Bronx, N.Y. and Kearney, New Jersey assigned to the Philadelphia Ship Yard Detachment. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in May of 1988. In June 1996 he reenlisted in the Navy Reserves and was assigned to the NSSF New London, Ct Reserve Unit. He performed duties repairing fast attack submarines.

In November 2001 he was mobilized to active duty for 12 months in support of Operation Noble Eagle/ Enduring freedom. He qualified as an expert on the 9mm pistol, M-16 rifle and the 50 caliber machine gun. He trained with the US Coast Guard and qualified for boat captain on 19 and 27 foot Zodiacs fast boots. He was one of the first members assigned to the boat patrol unit providing force protection while escorting submarines out to sea.

In May 2003 he was requested to support Fleet Week NYC as duty driver for Commander Second Fleet. During this assignment he was able to support JAG Officers with by investigating and gathering intelligence that led to a high profile arrest involving a member of a foreign Navy. He supported Fleet week every year thereafter as transportation and Law Enforcement Liaison.

Quartermaster Maydwell in 2008 while mobilized in Bahrain had the rear opportunity of getting on underway with the USS Typhoon patrolling the oil Platforms off the coast of Kuwait and Iraq. While on board he completed all requirements including a written test and oral board receiving the ESWS designator and Surface Warfare Pin.

In April of 1991 he was sworn into the New York City Transit Police Department. In November 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Midtown Precinct South, where he was assigned as one of the lead supervisors in Time Square.

In May of 2004 he graduated from Manhattan College (Magna Cum Laude) with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management. In 1995 he married his wife Eneida L. Maydwell in 1996 she gave birth to their son Joseph P. Maydwell Jr. In 1998 Eneida gave birth to their daughter Kayla M. Maydwell.

Quartermaster Maydwell has honorably served the United States Navy for more than 20 good years. Quartermaster Maydwell is the recipient of the flowing awards: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Battle E, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Navy Rifle Expert Medal. Navy pistol Expert Medal, several Flag Officers Letters of Commendation and Several Letters of Appreciation.

Presently Quartermaster Maydwell is employed with Related Companies. He holds the title of Director of Security at the Time Warner Center at 10 Columbus Circle in NYC, where he in responsible for security in the retail shops at The Shops at Columbus Circle.
